Today, l'll re-upload a post I did some time ago in another blog, where I explain how to do a pattern starting from a watercolor drawing. In this time some people asked me about the process so here it is again. Hope that you like it!

Hoy, re-subo una entrada que hice hace ya algún tiempo en otro blog, donde explicaba cómo hacer un patrón a partir de una acuarela. En este tiempo, algunas personas me han preguntado sobre el proceso así que aquí está de nuevo. Espero que os guste!
The first thing you need to do is scann the watercolor to clean it. It's important to have a great scanner and scan it at 300dpi or higher.

El primer paso es escanear la acuarela, es importante que tengáis un buen escaner si queréis que la imagen conserve una buena calidad. La resolución ideal es de 300ppp para que mantenga la misma calidad que la acuarela original.


The next step is clean the watercolor to remove the texture of paper, you can use the Curves of Photoshop, it's more easy to use this than Levels, but you can use both.

El siguiente paso es retocar la acuarela para eliminar la textura del papel (en el caso de que el papel tenga textura). Os recomiendo las curvas de Photoshop, para mí es más eficaz que los Niveles.



The next step is to draw a square with the guides of photoshop (you doesn't need to draw with lines), it's useful to add the middle guides too.

El siguiente paso es el de dibujar con las guías de Photoshop una forma, podéis usar un cuadrado o un rectángulo, y os recomiendo que marquéis con las propias guías la mitad horizontal y la mitad vertical.


Now we can put the bigger elements on this square, we will put the small elements later.

A continuación colocamos en ese cuadrado marcado con las guías los elementos grandes que tengamos de nuestra acuarela y dejamos los pequeños para añadirlos más adelante.


This is the key of entire process: you need to select one of horizontal half and pull to the other side. In this case we pull the left horizontal half and we move to the right.

Ahora viene la parte importante: debemos seleccionar una mitad, en este caso horizontal izquierda y trasladarla al otro lado (al lado derecho).


We need to do the same with the vertical half, move one to the other side (vertically).

Y a continuación haremos lo mismo con la mitad vertical (trasladándola al otro lado), en este caso la mitad vertical inferior se traslada a la mitad vertical superior.


If we done this two steps right, our new base will fit perfectly on the original square that we drew few steps ago.

Si lo hemos hecho bien al mover el cuadro a la posición inicial debería encajar de nuevo perfectamente, tal como vemos en esta imagen.


Now we can put the smallest elements on our new base, filling the pattern.

Ahora sí podemos colocar los elementos pequeños en los huecos que han quedado sin salirnos del cuadro imaginario marcado con las guías, el resultado será nuestro motivo principal.


And done! Only we need to repeat this pattern to make an awesome and bigger pattern, yay!

Ya sólo necesitamos repetir el motivo principal y unir las repeticiones unas con otras para tener nuestro estampado hecho, ¡Yuhu!
